Jan-Werner Müller was interviewed for a documentary entitled "Eugène Delacroix, A Breath of Freedom," a joint project between the Louvre museum and the Franco-German TV channel ARTE. Focusing on the recent restoration of Eugène Delacroix's painting "Liberty Leading the People," the documentary featured art historians, historians, and political theorists. Müller highlighted some of the contemporary resonances of the painting in images from the modern-day Gezi Park protests in Istanbul and the Black Lives Matter protests that became iconic. Müller said he was "delighted to have been able to contribute some arguments from the perspective of democratic theory to the broadcast," adding that it had been a very special experience to have an interview inside one of the normally inaccessible towers of the Louvre building.
The documentary, which is not viewable in the U.S. due to copyright laws, can be found on the ARTE website from October 26, 2025 to May 31, 2026 and a preview can be seen here.
