It is now possible for the University to note a milestone credit on the transcript for students who have successfully completed a summer internship related to their home department with proper pre-approval. The Department of Politics will consider requests for academic credit which will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the Director of Undergraduate Studies. The Department criteria is that the internship must be at least 8 weeks, and related to political science, politics, or public policy, including public advocacy and non-profit groups. For full consideration, students must complete the application for summer undergraduate internship milestone credit and upload the following supporting materials: 1) offer letter and 2) internship job description.
If approved, students will be required to submit a 1-2 page report to the Department at the conclusion of their internship as well as a letter from the organization detailing responsibilities and overall performance. Provided that the student has successfully completed the internship and complied with these conditions, the Registrar’s Office will subsequently note the milestone credit on the transcript. [Please note that this credit does not count toward the 31 University required courses toward graduation.]
The summer internship milestone credit program will be made available to sophomores who are in the process of declaring Politics as a major in the Fall of their junior year, subject to the discretion of the Department using the criteria outlined above. Please note that the program will not be available to first-years.
