Yingjie Fan studies Chinese politics and authoritarian political economy, with a focus on how authoritarian regimes use markets, institutions, information, and transnational ties to shape public opinion and political behavior. Her dissertation examines how consumer nationalism mobilizes demand for domestic firms and reshapes market competition in China. Her work has been published in British Journal of Political Science, Comparative Political Studies, and Political Communication
