Jasante’ Howard is a PhD student in the Department of Politics specializing in American Politics and Racial and Ethnic Politics, with an emphasis on Black politics. His research interests include policing and the carceral state, the politics and theory of Black political prisoners and radicals, Black nationalism, and pan-Africanism. His current dissertation, “The Limits of Police Reform,” is a case study of the development and implementation of “problem oriented policing” in Newport News, Virginia.
