Political Extremism

This practicum deals with political extremism among elites and citizens. We will investigate when, why and how politicians turn to extremist language, tactics or policies. We will also discuss when individual citizens are susceptible to extremist messages. Topics will include political violence, hate crime, and the rise of the radical right. The focus in this practicum is on understanding the research process and research design. The readings employ a variety of methods (e.g., quantitative, qualitative, experimental, observational/quasi-experimental).
