The department participates in the Program in Political Economy which enables students in the departments of Politics and Economics to supplement their disciplinary training with relevant study in the other department and to engage in specialized work in political economy.

Students join the program by entering either department through the normal admissions process and receive the doctoral degree of their home department. They are expected to fulfill the normal requirements of their home department and write a dissertation on a topic in political economy. Politics students participating in the program are required to designate political economy as one of their three general examination fields (to prepare for the general examination, students should take the two-semester political economy sequence, ECO520 and POL584). In addition, Politics students are also required to take on a graded basis two additional courses in Economics.

The Political Economy Workshop provides a forum in which scholars at Princeton and elsewhere present and discuss current work in political economy.
