The University will note a milestone credit on the transcript for students who have successfully completed a summer internship related to their home department, if requested by a student and pre-approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies. Department criteria is that the internship must be at least 8 weeks, and related to political science, politics, or public policy, including public advocacy and non-profit groups. For full consideration, students must complete an application for summer internship milestone credit and upload the following supporting materials: 1) offer letter and 2) internship job description.
The Director of Undergraduate Studies will review summer internship milestone credit requests on a case-by-case basis. If approved, students will be required to submit a 1-2 page report to the Department at the conclusion of their internship as well as a letter from the organization detailing responsibilities and overall performance. Provided that the student has successfully completed the internship and complied with these conditions, the Registrar’s Office will subsequently note the milestone credit on the transcript. [Please note the summer internship milestone does not carry course credit, nor does it count toward the total number of University courses required for graduation.]
The summer internship milestone credit program will be made available to sophomores who are in the process of declaring Politics as a major, subject to the discretion of the Department using the criteria outlined above. Please note that the program is not be available to first-year students.
