This panel brings together three people who have thought deeply about the use of the narrative case study as an essential tool for learning and for fostering change. Michael Woolcock introduces the use of narrative cases to promote better development policy making. Michael Kimmelman and Matt Thompson discuss their aims creating The New York Times Headway series, which explores the world’s challenges through the lens of progress. The event celebrates the May 2022 Cambridge University Press release of The Case for Case Studies, an Open Access book in which Professors Achen, Moravcsik, and Widner—and our former colleague Tom Pavone—all have chapters.
 
Michael Woolcock, Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy, Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Lead Social Development Specialist with the World Bank's  Development Research Group.

Michael Kimmelman, The New York Times, he previously created the Abroad column, covering cultural and political affairs across Europe and the Middle East. He is the founder and editor-at-large of Headway.

Matt Thompson, The New York Times, is the current editor of the New York Times Headway venture and is former editor in chief of Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting.
