John hails from South Carolina and holds a bachelor's in mathematics and computer science from the University of South Carolina at Aiken. He found his way into political science through political theory, and that history continues to inform his research agenda.
His current research centers on regulatory and bureaucratic politics in the food safety and public health contexts. However, he also has interests in the revolving door between government and industry and in the reconciliation of hate speech concerns with academic freedom.
